Raster -> 3x4 grid typeface

I dig this typeface coming from Feldkirch, Austria based designer David Gobber. It feels fresh and also seems to capture the essence of the Art Deco design style of an earlier era. I think it’s the suspended mid-waist of the ‘E’ that’s making me go there… He’s got a bunch of very nice, inspirational work on his [...]

Retro Fonts -> Cassannet and Metropolis

I’ve seen a resurgence of some beautifully designed retro art deco fonts lately. Above are a couple that I’ve really taken a liking to, Cassannet (by Josip Kelava) & Metropolis (by atipo.es). They maintain a great classic quality while also feeling nice and fresh. Both terrific fonts for designers who are looking to shake it [...]

Francois Robert -> Stop The Violence Series

The work of artist and photographer Francois Robert has been showing up a bit this week on my Tumblr dashboard. This series called ‘Stop The Violence’, seemed appropriately creepy for the upcoming Halloween holiday. More amazingly precise arrangements of bone beyond the links below. How often does one get to say that?

Unseen Photography -> Photo Fair

The super clean, well designed type design, promotional materials and web site for the Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam are a fine example of event branding. The Amsterdam based festival is a gathering of photography galleries displaying unseen works. Worth checking out.

The Alphabet 2 -> n9ve

The Alphabet 2 from n9ve on Vimeo.

Super ambitious, super fun. I like the wide array of effects and the overall quirkiness of this short video. Great work coming from the talented Turin, Italy based design studio ’9nve’.

Notes from Vimeo:

“The Alphabet 2- a horn book video experiment – is a developmental spelling – video where each [...]

Digital Alphabet in Stone -> Dom Hans

Digital Alphabet in Stone – Dom Hans van der Laan/Autobahn 2011 from autobahn on Vimeo.

This is an interesting and rare view into the art of transferring type from the digital medium to stone. Makes for a fun view for those who enjoy great type and amazing old world skills.

Type Fluid -> Skyrill

I came across this interesting fluid type experiment by the innovative folks at Skyrill.com this evening on Behance. The renderings are fun to watch come to form and are extremely, well …fluid. Plenty of videos beyond the links below, have click through their portfolio site as well.

Octave Typography -> Ana Gomez

The typography works coming from NYC based designer Ana Gomez are pretty amazing to take in. The accuracy and consistent flow of the line quality is nothing short of fantastic and great fun to look over.

Notes from Behance:

“Octave has been created with the intention of fusing together the graphical elements of written musical composition with the English alphabet. [...]

Julien Vallée -> Tangible Design AOL

I dig these tangible designs by Montréal based graphic designer Julien Vallée. They were created for a recently launched artists site created by AOL (aolartists.com) that is meant to be a community for sharing new inspirational art and design. His combination of sculptural form and simply placed san-serif type really catches my eye. More great work to [...]

A Brief History of Title Design -> Ian Albinson

A Brief History of Title Design from Ian Albinson on Vimeo.

This video was produced for the SXSW “Excellence in Title Design” competition screening. It’s pretty fun to see all of those old title screens that we’ve all become so familiar with build to present day. A complete list of movie titles shown can be seen on the [...]

The Alphabet -> N9VE

This is a nice fluid alphabet animation created by Sardinia, Italy based designer N9VE, where each character is the initial letter of a font name. Pretty slick, I like the hand rendered, herky-jerky style. Click through to watch it on Vimeo.

'Infographics in Context' -> Peter Orntoft

Many in the design community have claimed that 2010 was the year of the infographic. With design forward organizations like GOOD magazine, countless agencies and independent designers all taking a crack at reinventing the idea of information design in the past couple years, it’s become a fun trend to track. The fantastic examples above are from a [...]
