I think artist photographer Lauren Marsolier is a genius. His ability to detect healthy tension and strong composition in a seemingly sterile location is inspiring. It’s one thing to capture a beautiful photo from something that is interesting and captivating from the get go, it’s another to capture something beautiful and interesting from a location that would be considered mundane by most.

Icon Bronco -> Cool Hunting Vid

Yes, another 4×4 post… I’ve posted many times about the magical custom rehab 4×4 establishment that is Icon, based in L.A. The folks at Cool Huntind created a nice little spot on their amazing Bronco design. Did you know that the grill design on some of the Icon trucks was assisted by Nike? More detail on that on autoblog.com. Pretty interesting stuff.

I dig this typeface coming from Feldkirch, Austria based designer David Gobber. It feels fresh and also seems to capture the essence of the Art Deco design style of an earlier era. I think it’s the suspended mid-waist of the ‘E’ that’s making me go there… He’s got a bunch of very nice, inspirational work on his Behance page. Have a look.

I’ve rediscovered the work of Stockholm based photographer Felix Odell this evening. His Buenos Aires photos (2010) were the first that caught my eye, but I’m absolutely captivated by ‘The Mist’ series of photos from 2009 as well. His whole collection is amazing and worth checking out.

From Pedro Maia’s super 8 home movies archive, this video results from the work in the dark room using analogue means of light manipulation of the film in attempted to don’t allow us to forget the materials. Here are elusive shadows, the delicate materials turning and strobing and shaking as if to emphasize the fragility of the look, the fragility of these family films compacts have come apart at last, and in their dissolution, in the dying moments of their foreclosure and abandonment, these pictures have been left behind.”

The above video documents Miguel Endara’s 210 hour magical pointillism portrait of his father called ‘Hero’. How many dots does it take to create such an amazing image? He’s guessing about 3.2 million well placed micro dots of ink. Give or take one or two… Very impressive and very fun to see it all come together.
