‘Friends of Type’ is a group of typography loving friends who decided to share their creative passion and exploration with the rest of the world, via their website. Aaron Carambula, Erik Marinovich, Dennis Payongayong and Jason Wong all contribute their designs to the site where you can browse, comment, rate and even purchase a few prints. The site itself is nice and clean, seems to be updated fairly often and is fun to browse. Makes for an interesting source for typography inspiration.

The above images are from the online antique storefront called ‘Three Potato Four’ created by husband/wife team Janet Morales & Stu Eli. With a strong passion for collecting and curating lost objects they moved from their loft in NYC to Reston, Virginia in order to be closer to their family and better afford and maintain their antique business. I really enjoy their simple stylish site design + the nicely arranged and photographed products. Clicking through the site is almost as much fun as walking through a great antique shop in person, which, btw, it is a complete myth that you have to be 65 and retired to enjoy doing. Be sure to friend them on facebook and check out their blog as well.

If you like pop-up books and horror stories, or just horrific things in general you’ll enjoy this quirky pop-up design by Don Vanone. The above vimeo video gives you a nice page by page preview of the book. You may want to turn off the volume or listen to some music while viewing b/c the atmospheric fumbling noise of him opening each spread was killing me. Maybe that’s my phobia, having to listen to that again… Worth a view.
Urban clothing company Uniqlo always delivers a little more that expected when it comes to displaying their online collections on what they call ‘special sites’, this season is no exception. Uniqlo has two really interesting ‘special sites’ sites up for the upcoming holiday season that you should check out. One featuring their cool weather clothing line ‘Heattech – Japan Technology’ (whatever that means) and the other is there new down coat collection. Both are very interesting from a flash video + UI perspective. Great inspiration for that next project.

I’m not even sure where or how I found this site last weekend, but I saved it in my delicious bookmarks and discovered it today while browsing ideas for a good Friday post. Must have been a late find last Saturday evening… Regardless, Amsterdam based curator Max Akkerman founded ‘Maxalot Gallery’ and their web presence has an amazing collection of art and wall art available for purchase. Everything from trippy line art renderings to amazing time-lapse cityscapes all coming from interesting designers e.g., Joshua Davis, Paul Louise Miller, Jackson Chang and many others. Great browse for inspiration as well as home decor shopping.

It’s pretty safe to say that in these sorry economic times when business’s rely more and more on data driven tactics that infographics in general have become a part of our everyday lives. I’m posting this ‘Nonsensical Infographic No. 1′ to remind us that our charts, graphs and diagrams can be well designed, even if the data is not all that interesting (or in this case non-existent). The need for talented infographic designers is definitely in demand. One example of a company that is consistently creating amazing infographics, in my opinion is ‘GOOD magazine’, well worth checking out. The above ‘Nonsensical Infographic No. 1′ is available as a print via the link below.

I came across these nice Pantone Messenger Bags on http://www.fubiz.net yesterday. If you are a designer of any kind these bags should resonate with you right away. Pantone was founded in 1962, when the company—at the time a small business that manufactured color cards for cosmetics companies. Today it is the designer’s trusted source for accurate color and even better, now available to you in the form of a clean simple messenger bag. I was hoping to find it available in a billion different colors but I’m not having much luck. I’ll post more links to purchase more colors as I find them.

Pre-order them here in the U.S. -> Baby Geared
