Microsoft created this designer/developer community site as a way to promote IE9 and also to showcase creative use of HTML 5. I first heard news of these fascinating and newly discovered stereo photographs this morning on the local news while getting ready to head off to work. Taken to be viewed through a stereo-optic viewer, these images were captured by color photography pioneer Frederick Eugene Ives in 1906, about six months after the massively destructive ‘Great Quake’ [...] QuaDror from Dror on Vimeo. World renowned designer Dror Benshetrit spent four years developing the innovative structural joint above called QuaDror. The design is not only strong, supporting up to 86 QuaDrors on top of itself, it’s also incredibly compact and able to be flat shipped from place of development to place of assembly, saving valuable [...] I thought this well-filmed video and the actual idea of enhancing one’s bike with an automatic rainbow generating machine was pretty clever. I love that there are people out there spending time building things like this, reminds me a bit of Nike’s Chalk Bot. Makes for a fun view. Interaction designers have their work cut out for themselves these days, for sure. We’ve got a multitude of iPads, tablets, E-Readers, a bazillion different mobile phone devices, internet TV and many other untapped experimental multimodel, voice and gestural interactions to think about and design interfaces for. In addition to all of that, there’s this intriguing projection based interface [...] Moscow based digital artist Vladimir Shelest has sculpted and rendered this ultra sci-fi experimental graphic environment for a mobile phone release called QderoPateo Ouidoo. The particle effects, lighting and transparent layers are pretty much falling within the category of memorizing. You can put something down in words, discuss it or wireframe it out for months, even years, but until you render an idea in a way that’s true to life it’s difficult to fully understand the potential. The ‘iWatch’ concept by Naples based ADR [...] I find Ujin Lee’s ‘Dust’ series of photographs to be incredibly creative and innovative. I love that he chose to experiment with different environments, I feel each space exaggerates the already obscure subject matter and then hits me in profound ways that I have difficulty placing my finger on and explaining. In short, to me [...] I have become incredibly inspired by Kevin Cooley’s ‘Light’s Edge’ photo collection. Kevin Cooley is a Brooklyn based photographer and video artist who often collaborates with the talented photographer Bridget Batch. He beautifully captures obscure lighting events in places of dramatic scenery and isolation that to me, seem alien and otherworldly.
