The above vid is a ‘faked’ concept (according to my research findings) for a controlled quantum levitation mini version of the game. Like all sci-fi, it may not be real today, but the seed has been planted.
Above, are two of my favorite old photos of the young, passionate, genius and relentless Steve Jobs. The second photo, with a young Bill Gates seated next to him, has blown my mind from the first day that I laid eyes on it. To me, it is amazingly revealing and says so much about the two of them, with so much foresight. Right down to their shoes… Just when I thought that Steve Jobs couldn’t possibly teach us any new tricks, or new ways of looking at things, he died today at at 56. It really hit me. Life is incredibly short, people. Here’s to the crazy ones.

I’ve got to say, things were looking pretty grim for ol’ Facebook when Google+ rolled out. G+ seemed to offer up some pretty nice enhancements to the social networking space with ‘circles’ and being able to follow non-friends, similar to Twitter. For me though, it lacked in the area of visual presentation, other than the ‘circles’ interface, the concept was pretty reminiscent of Facebook’s aging interface and overall layout/flow. Myself, being an extremely visual person, I was pretty underwhelmed by G+ in that respect.

Having said all that, I am really excited about Facebook’s new ‘timeline’ layout. I followed the simple steps to activate the invite via this TechCrunch post and am having a lot of fun with it (screen shots from my ‘timeline’ above). The timeline functionality offers something beyond just a ‘nifty interface’ that I really value and I’m certain many others who have been using Facebook for many years will value as well. It’s an amazing capture of your life, friends and the memorable milestones, all in one place. It’s a display of Facebook’s built equity, our loyalty and years of engagement that makes this ‘timeline’ so powerful and enjoyable. Something very special that Google + will have to build and earn on their own, over time, if they can keep up. Nice job Facebook.

Notes from Vimeo:

“In this screen test, the video in any zone of the left half is sampled (from that same zone) from the video in the same location on the right half. All the videos start almost in sync, with a slight offset, so you can see movements ‘ripple’ from the bottom right to the top left in the grid.”

This is a very interesting and futuristic eCommerce touch interface concept for use as a way to bridge the gap from an in-store experience to an online sales experience. The design was created by a Swedish mobile production company called B-Reel and the product is called ‘TRE’. I think the interface, as ‘minority report’ as it seems, definitely has some very practical aspects to it and could be used for a variety of things outside of just eComm… e.g., home schooling, B2B product demos and even for social use.
I first heard news of these fascinating and newly discovered stereo photographs this morning on the local news while getting ready to head off to work. Taken to be viewed through a stereo-optic viewer, these images were captured by color photography pioneer Frederick Eugene Ives in 1906, about six months after the massively destructive ‘Great Quake’ in San Francisco. I’m amazed by the overall clarity and color accuracy. 1906! Think about that!

Interaction designers have their work cut out for themselves these days, for sure. We’ve got a multitude of iPads, tablets, E-Readers, a bazillion different mobile phone devices, internet TV and many other untapped experimental multimodel, voice and gestural interactions to think about and design interfaces for. In addition to all of that, there’s this intriguing projection based interface called ‘Skinput’, ideated by Chris Harrison. I love this concept mostly for that fact that it’s NOT another screen that I have to carry around with me. I love it for the fact that it’s a more sanitary interface, especially for public ATMs and Kiosks. I love that it’s so much more of a sustainable interface, in that it re-uses a nifty hi-tech preexisting surface that we always carry with us, our skin! There’s so many reasons to explore this direction… very inspiring. Check out the video below.

The ‘iWatch’ concept by Naples based ADR Studio is well done and very inspiring. It makes me wonder if I’ll have to carry around a bulky phone at all in the future?

I find Ujin Lee’s ‘Dust’ series of photographs to be incredibly creative and innovative. I love that he chose to experiment with different environments, I feel each space exaggerates the already obscure subject matter and then hits me in profound ways that I have difficulty placing my finger on and explaining. In short, to me it’s an interesting collision between the everyday and the surreal. More beyond the link.
