Nice documentary on old school, quality USA garment manufacturing, focusing on the Martin Greenfield factory in Brooklyn. I personally hope that these smaller “Made in the USA” clothing manufacturers continue to build and renew their popularity. You may not get the 24 hour shipping option, or the ‘Prime’ discount on their website, but good quality is worth waiting for in my opinion. On a related note, one of my favorite local Seattle outfitters is www.filson.com (since 1897). You won’t find a better classic wool shirt.

If you’re looking for a new online resource for design, art, music, culture and fashion you may want to check out Honeyee.com. I like the simplicity of the site’s template which allows the imagery to speak loudly and not become diluted by a heavy site skin.
I was just speaking to someone yesterday of the apparent fluidity and unlimited potential for the iPad/iPhone/eReader/mobile anything case sub-markets and then coincidentally, later in the evening stumbled upon this interesting company called ‘Grove Made’ who makes these nifty laser engraved bamboo iPhone cases. Pretty slick. I found this on one of my favorite posterous blogs -> subnetwork.posterous.com

‘Maestro Knows’ is an online show based around skateboarding vlogger personality Levi Maestro’s day to day life. Documenting urban skate and urban culture, style and fashion trends while skating around town is what he’s known for. Initially his vlogging took place primarily Los Angeles, his popularity has gained him some extra travel opportunities and is now roaming the streets of Japan. He’s made great use of Vimeo, Twitter and his blog to create a nice digital loudspeaker for him to broadcast through. Fun stuff. Check out his latest episode below.

No surprise. Nike is still king of personalization, customization and the online configurator. I quickly designed the above shoe on Nike’s latest configurator for the NIKEiD line with ease. I liked the outcome so much that I decided to save the design for a possible future purchase. Some other nice things I like about this configurator is that you can post/share your design on your blog, Facebook or Myspace by just copying/pasting your embed code, and for the real shoe fanatics out there you can export the design as wallpaper or a wallet photo. One piece of feedback, it would be handy to be able to adjust the height and width of the embed image and to customize the background colors, similar to the adjustments on a YouTube or Vimeo vid.

This short promotion displays some of the 35 different hand drawn graffiti art ‘route maps’ that Nike has commissioned to be created in different East London locations for the INSA. The promotion is for an upcoming show called “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” at the hip NSW 1948 pop-up shop and runs from July 17th – July 26th, 2009. This is yet another great example of some of the fantastic underground, immersive and collaborative advertising Nike has recently created.

Notes from Vimeo:

In 7 days INSA ran the city of east London, painting 35 pieces on route of Charlie Dark’s map for The IAM1 Journey Nike Sportswear project. Produced by Protein and documented by INSA’s long time collaborator, photographer Ethel, each of the 35 hand painted pieces form one of the centre pieces of INSAs major London solo show for 2009. This IAM1 Journey animation will be deconstructed within the “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” show with behind-the-scenes processes alongside the original painted objects that make up the individual frames.

Underwater photography has been very trendy in the past year or two and I have seen a lot of amazing examples of it. A few months ago the woman’s clothing store ‘Anthropology’ photographed their entire catalog with underwater photography. Has the trend plateaued I wonder? The examples posted here lead me to believe that underwater photography is still evolving.

Zena Holloway has taken her underwater photography to a higher level by creating magical post lighting effects and compositing images of sea creatures and other various animal life into her images. The final effect is beautifully fluid, visually engaging and otherworldly. Stop by her website to take in many more great examples of her work.
