This past week I decided to check out the Society6 artist’s community/storefront. I have been shopping around for an online print and frame service for some of my photography anyway, so I decided, why not try a service that also connects artists together, similar to how the Blurb DIY book service does? So far, I really dig the simple interface, all the great printing options and the community sharing. Some folks have even stopped by to show me some support…(I suspect many of them are fellow VW Microbus fans). I did order a framed photo print and I’m eagerly awaiting to see how it comes out. For a 26′x22′ custom framed print I found it to be very affordable. I should be seeing it in the next couple of weeks. I’ll report back on the print and frame quality. Stay tuned…

About Society6:

“The artwork on Society6 is created by thousands of artists from around the world. When you buy a product from Society6, we produce it using only the highest quality materials, and ship it to you on behalf of the artist.”

I like this little film about super talented artist Chris Sickels and his vintage Harley Pacer. All around, he seems like a great person, someone who appreciates the simple things in life but is also passionate about producing the things his mind gravitates towards. Makes for an entertaining view, godspeed!

Notes from Vimeo:

“Love and Light” video aims to explore the relation between a musician and filmmaker and their personal reflection on memories. From Pedro Maia’s super 8 home movies archive, this video results from the work in the dark room using analogue means of light manipulation of the film in attempted to don’t allow us to forget the materials. Here are elusive shadows, the delicate materials turning and strobing and shaking as if to emphasize the fragility of the look, the fragility of these family films compacts have come apart at last, and in their dissolution, in the dying moments of their foreclosure and abandonment, these pictures have been left behind.”

I recently discovered the sculptural works of Amsterdam based artist Boris Tellegen. Full of dynamic multi-layered structure and modern edge, they really hold my attention. I’d like to see them in person, I’m sure as light changes in any given room or space, they change personality right along with it. Many more great works by Boris Tellegen to be seen beyond the link below.

Apparently, it was created and documented some time ago in 1993, but it’s been floating around on Tumblr blogs a bit lately because of it’s timely on-trend aesthetic. Here’s the overall project description from the Behance page:

“Luminous Earth Grid, an array of 1,680 energy-efficient fluorescent lamps, swept over 10 acres of undulating landscape, 50 miles north of San Francisco. Said the artist, “I see the project as a poetic statement on the potential harmony between technology and nature.” Over a five year period, Williams launched a rigorous fund raising campaign throughout Northern California, and raised nearly half a million dollars to realize the massive project. It was widely acclaimed by critics around the globe and drew tens of thousands of visitors.”

I would imagine this kind of thing could land you in jail for a while, but it makes for a nice view.
