Notes from Vimeo:

“Chaotic Moon Labs’ “Board of Awesomeness” is intended as a technology teaser to show how perceptive computing can turn around the way we look at user experiences. The project utilizes a Microsoft Kinect device, Samsung Windows 8 tablet, a motorized longboard, and some standard and custom hardware to create a longboard that watches the user to determine what to do rather than have the operator use a wired or wireless controller. The project uses video recognition, speech recognition, localization data, accelerometer data, and other factors to determine what the user wants to do and allows the board to follow the operators commands without additional aid.”

Kickstarter is an amazing phenomenon isn’t it? It allows brilliant people to bring their ideas to life by raising the funds to make it happen, this example is no exception. The beautiful wrist watch design above called ‘Vuelta’, was created by Leo Padron, founder of the Minneapolis based Padron Watch Company. His passion and knowledge for restoring Swiss and Japanese mechanicals from the 1950s all the way to the 1980s led him to this clean design. He launched his project on Kisckstarter to produce the ’Vuelta’ a few of weeks ago and has already hit his 200% funded mark. Go Leo! …and go Kickstarter!

I recently purchased this nice new Google analytics visualizer called ‘Audience’ for 99¢ in the appstore. It’s well designed and there are some nice color transitions that occur while looking over your data. Kind of refreshing in comparison to all of the other less designed options that are available.

Walking in your mind (live mashup) from Ithaca Audio on Vimeo.

It’s amazing what has become possible with live audiovisual sampling. Monome, tonematrix and tenori-on sampling devices have really evolved over that last few years. Fun stuff to keep an eye on.

I’ve seen a few flavors of mirror screen concepts coming from different tech companies in the past few years. Most notable was a Yahoo! powered experience I saw at the 2006 CES (I almost got in trouble for taking that photo)… This version by the ‘R&D Lab’ takes it to the next level with speech recognition and some nifty gestural technology. I like the overall idea, especially for traffic/weather news and other bits of information that help us to start the day. I could also see this tech being useful in retail dressing rooms for size requests and deeper assortment browsing, or just for playing video that relates to the product you’ve tried on. Lot’s of potential.

Adobe’s nicely designed ‘The Expressive Web’ beta site is meant to showcase the capabilities and seemingly unlimited potential for designers and developers using HTML5 and Adobe CSS3. New functionality includes dynamic drop shadows, impressive motion and transition control, more control with color and gradients… and a nifty canvas element that let’s you control it all via-JavaScript. Things are about to get interesting, once again. Can’t wait to try some of this stuff out.
