Satori from Abhilasha Dewan on Vimeo.

I really dig the overall effect of this cleverly composited animation short by Abhilasha Dewan, inspired by the misty mountains of Nainital, India. Lot’s of great subtle shading and filtering, his use of photography to add depth and dimension to the illustration is just awesome. Very inspiring piece.

The above vid is a ‘faked’ concept (according to my research findings) for a controlled quantum levitation mini version of the game. Like all sci-fi, it may not be real today, but the seed has been planted.
I’ve seen a few flavors of mirror screen concepts coming from different tech companies in the past few years. I like the overall idea, especially for traffic/weather news and other bits of information that help us to start the day. I could also see this tech being useful in retail dressing rooms for size requests and deeper assortment browsing, or just for playing video that relates to the product you’ve tried on. Lot’s of potential.

Adobe’s nicely designed ‘The Expressive Web’ beta site is meant to showcase the capabilities and seemingly unlimited potential for designers and developers using HTML5 and Adobe CSS3. New functionality includes dynamic drop shadows, impressive motion and transition control, more control with color and gradients… and a nifty canvas element that let’s you control it all via-JavaScript. Things are about to get interesting, once again. Can’t wait to try some of this stuff out.

“Tendril is a relatively young studio and we are always looking for ways to experiment with the brand and its possibilities. We hope you enjoy this sound-synchronized logo reconstruction sequence. If you have seen our 2011 Showreel, you may recognize some of the animation, which was intercut there to form a visual backbone for the edit.”

The bad thing is that my photo taking productivity has increased significantly and I haven’t touched my Canon 7D in weeks! I’ve found that the new 8MP camera and optics have really made this device less of a mobile phone, and more of a handy mobile camera, for me. I wonder when we’ll stop calling them ‘mobile pics’ all together? You can check out many, many more of my 4s pics on my Tumblr blog via the link below.

Nice concept, very well executed. Definitely makes for an interesting view.

Notes from Vimeo:

““Light” a short film directed by David Parker, initially began as a project intended to bring awareness to energy waste. Bleeding, crying lights were meant to metaphorically parallel the way in which we invisibly squander our natural resources without much thought. While the original sentiment remains, the film also grew into a poetic statement about a world run amok and the human tendency to exploit that which we hold dear.

The film was shot over a couple nights in Los Angeles as two friends drove around with a camera exploring the city’s architecture and abandoned landscapes. Keeping in this vein, the film will be projected in selected US cities in vacant storefront windows and onto walls in alleys as a moving piece of public art.”

Jawbone is releasing an exciting and innovative new health tracking device and mobile app. It’s reminiscent of the NIKE/Apple partnership but not attached to an expensive shoe, and not specific to one activity, opening the door to a much larger customer base. You can now toss your old heart rate monitor and pedometer and that other ‘ometer’ thing that really never worked properly and left a funky rash on your arm. This wristband/app combo looks very promising, and certain to inspire other companies to dabble in the space. I’m curious to see if they have integrated a way within the app to share and extend one’s personal health data to the social nets and maybe even your Doctor? Interesting stuff.

Amazing, and well worth the view.

Notes from Vimeo:

“This is selection of northern lights we filmed during the winter 2011 in several locations in the Finnish Lapland. It’s filmed with DSLR cameras with timelapse technique and with remote pan/tilt heads.”
