Rolling Shutter -> Photo Effect Oddity

I thought the above in-flight turbo prop pictures taken by Jason Mullins with his iPhone 4 were pretty amazing, and at first I had thought maybe they were an odd Photoshop experiment of some kind. As it turns out, it’s a photographic phenomenon/effect called ‘rolling shutter’ that occurs when an image is scanned either from top to bottom or from left to right when taking pics of objects that are moving at a high rate of speed. You learn something new every day, well, almost every day.
