iPhone RFID -> Object-Based Media

iPhone RFID: object-based media from timo on Vimeo.

I think we’ll start to see RFID technology infuse into our everyday lives more and more as our mobile devices evolve. It’s such a simple technology and it can be used in endless ways. Seen here, by holding the phone close to certain toys you get different video programming results. Subway posters, merchandise, historical monuments, street signs even lost dogs all have stories that they could tell you if they were RFID-iffied. Your mobile device will become more of a magic wand than ever before. Now all we need is a universal method/signal/logo for letting people know that an object is RFID enabled. Who’s working on that I wonder?

Notes from Vimeo:

This is a prototype of an iPhone media player that uses physical objects to control media playback. It is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) that triggers various iPhone interactions when in the range of a wireless tag embedded inside a physical object.
