Brand new BMX edit.! from Anton on Vimeo.
O.k. I’ll come clean. Mom, Dad, I hope your not reading this one. I spent easily 15% of my college years watching skateboard and BMX videos with my friends. From beneath our dorm room door and lingering down the hall emanated the tribal-esque sounds of young hairy unshowered men gathered around a secondhand plastic oak framed tube t.v. grunting “Whoaa! Whaaa!? OOooooh! That hurt. Damn! Noooooooooo! Whaaa!? OOOoooh!” for hours. All day. All night. Depending on the weather and depending on if there was a “decent” party going on somewhere and the worst case scenario, depending on having to actually go to class. There, let the truth be known.
Last night this video brought me back to that wonderful but primitive time. Trapped indoors by a “decent” Minnesota snowstorm (which made for a perfect alibi). I was forced to sit in front of my warm glowing LCD with nothing else to do but watch the “cool kids” bravely shank their shins on parking blocks and guard rails for hours (well, maybe 45 min).
This video called “Brand new BMX edit.!” (perfectly titled with a period and an exclamation point for backup) by a guy named Anton (from Iceland) has it all. Some “decent” wipeouts and yard sales at the beginning and a nice transition into some seriously slick riding revealing Anton’s skills. Amazing tricks. Tricks that made me feel old tricks. The video starts out playing music by the Cure, but the pivotal moment for me was the use of Pinback’s “It’s good to see you” (about a quarter way through). One of my favorite tracks by one of my favorite bands. To me this was a delightful throwback. For you, well, I’ll be selfish and leave it at that. Cheers.

Two punctuations, these guys aren’t messing around. I find it amazing that 50% of all males don’t die before the age of 12. I never did anything like this because I never got that good, but I did a lot of reckless stuff in my youth with zero regard for my personal safety. I should go back to that.
